A power system is a network that generates, distributes, and then transmits power to places that need it, such as homes, businesses, and street lights. When you think of electrical power in this sense, you will have something that generates the power, such as a power plant that usually runs off carbon energy, a transformer that changes the power into a usable form, power lines that carry that power to substations that then send the power on power lines into your home or office building.
That being said, what about power systems that are mobile? These power systems have all the same components, just compacted into a smaller space.
Wagner Used Equipment serves Colorado, New Mexico, and far west Texas with the best used power systems for your needs. Whether you are an oil and gas company that needs power for your operations in a remote location, or you need to power your trailer on your construction site, we can help. Our team has decades of experience helping you with your needs. Below, we'll take a look at some of the uses for power systems. Contact one of our Cat dealers to get started today!
What is a Power System?
For remote work, a generator is a compact power system in one that has enabled many structures and activities to take place. From helping with lighting to powering computers and power tools, a commercial gen set is extremely valuable.
How Does a Generator Work?
A generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy via a process called electromagnetic induction. A conductor coil is rotated around a magnet. The mechanical energy is produced by carbon fuels, such as diesel fuel or natural gas. As the coil rotates, the magnetic field is used to create a flow of electrical current that is then transmitted as power for our use. Thus, a generator does not create electricity. It's the mechanical force that moves electric charges in the magnet or circuit. This process was discovered by Michael Faraday, the Father of Electricity, in 1831.

USES OF POWER SYSTEMS
Supply Backup Power
One of the main uses of a portable power system is to supply backup power for homes, businesses, hospitals, offices, restaurants, and more. In today's modern world, there's not much you can do to serve your customers if you lose power. From the lights going out to computers going down, you are at the mercy of the power company to restore power. However, with a backup power system, you can enjoy uninterrupted power, and business as usual can take place. This is especially crucial for emergency personnel, such as firefighters, police, and hospitals.
Supply Power to Remote Locations
There are remote locations on earth that just don't have power lines close to them to draw from the traditional power grid. In these locations, such as the research bases in Antarctica, their only source of power has to be from generators. This, in fact, makes living comfortable possible. Having lights is crucial in a place like Antarctica during their long winter where sunlight can be non-existent or for a few hours. Luckily, these portable commercial and industrial power systems are extremely reliable, even when being used quite frequently.
Supply Power to Construction Sites
When you're on a construction site, you need power, plain and simple. From charging your power tools to having lights at night, power to your pumps, and electricity to your trailer, a portable power system is a necessity on a job site in order to increase efficiencies and get the job done on-time and on-budget. Moreover, having a reliable power system keeps your employees safe when twilight comes. Plus, many generators are mounted on wheels, so moving them from place to place based on demand is easy and convenient.
Supply Power for Events
When you're having an event, such as a wedding, a graduation party, or just a summer BBQ by a nearby lake, it's nice to have a portable power supply. You then will be able to have lights for your event, power for electric signage, electricity for your stereo system, and the power for a refrigerator or bar area for your guests. Portable power systems allow you to have a party well into the night and truly enjoy time in the outdoors with your friends and family.
Supply Power for Fairs
Most of us love attending carnivals, fairs, and blow-up jump houses. The rides are all powered by portable power systems, with each usually having their own. In addition, if you've ever been to a jump house with giant blow-up slides and jump areas, these use generators as well. This is why you will also see these blow-up slides at street events, too. The availability of portable power systems makes these fun events possible.
Supply Power for Campers
If you've ever been traveling with a camper that has a generator, you will know what a difference it makes to your overall travel, camping, or other backcountry experience. You can have electricity for lights, to make coffee in the morning, to power your microwave, and to power your computer to check in on the world. Having a portable power supply that you can easily take with you no matter where you go can add a level of comfort that wouldn't be possible otherwise.
Supply Power for Agriculture
Since only 1.3% of American workers are farmers, many people don't think about the fact that farming requires a lot of portable power supply use. Having backup power is essential for most farmers who use power on a daily basis to feed their livestock, poultry, and care for their crops. Farmers need electricity to milk their cows and provide a light source for working at night. Electricity is also needed to ensure food that has been harvested and is awaiting transport and/or sale doesn't spoil.
